Things I Can't Stop Talking About | 11.13.19

Here are some things I haven’t been able to stop talking about…

Here is the first of what is sure to be many round-ups of things I can’t stop talking about lately.

  • Joyful — If you’re close to me, you’re probably tired of listening to me talk about this book, tbh. I read it in February and my entire view of the world changed. It’s brought so many revelations. The most recent of which you can read on Obvi, We’re The Ladies. I talk about how this book taught me how to find joy through renewal, and what that meant for me this Fall.

  • Puerto Rico — I’m headed to Puerto Rico in about 36 hours. It’s 24 degrees in Chicago at the moment. This one is pretty straight forward.

  • Sports As Culture — I do not enjoy watching sports very much, and I frequently find conversations about sports to be exhausting and boring. It’s funny, because most of my career I’ve been working within the sport industry. Spotify added an episode of this podcast The Lead to my Daily Drive playlist a few weeks ago. It started playing and listened like true crime, so I didn’t even question it. It was discussing the sudden passing of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. I listened to the story and thought - How did I not hear about this? I’m very up to date on pop culture news and this seems like it would have overlapped a bit. It didn’t. A week later Spotify threw the same podcast at me again, this time I was listening to a dialogue about Women’s Soccer. I realized the interest in sports wasn’t really that sudden, I think I’ve always been interested in conversations about sport as an element of culture (issues of racism in the NFL, paying to go to women’s sporting events as activism, new Nike sneaker drops), what I’ve been bored by are conversations about points and numbers.
